Hello there,
happy CloudCompare user here.
I'd like to highlight an issue while exporting several thousands of polylines using the iterating "X" cross section tool to extract contours.
Each point cloud slice will generate polylines; if one wishes a tight accuracy, the small the resolution, the big is the number of line segments generated for each iteration. hundreds of iteration multiplied with thousands polylines, you get the point.
Exporting them all results in a overwhelming quantity of DXF layers, handling them inside the most common CAD program might be hard work, in some cases it may be a fatal, catch22 situation.
Deadlock
since it requires AGES only to populate layer's table (due to both software deficiencies AND a not-so-common user case. one is supposed to have at most a few hundreds of layers, not more)
So:
layer handling is something i'd like to have in future CC releases, at least some basic like a simple -> "DXF layer to selected entities" will be just enough to start with.
Thank you all
Exported DXF "too many layers" issue
Re: Exported DXF "too many layers" issue
Ah, DXF is definitely not a strong point of CloudCompare ;).
And this DXF layer thing would be a bit heavy to manage just for this sake. Would considering the parent group as a single 'layer' be sufficient maybe?

Yes indeed that flag would be something!
